2009 Tournament Results
We had a very successful tournament again this year with forty two boats enterred, despite the small craft advisory set on the Arkansas River and Lake Dardanelle.  The wind was brutal all day long,  several boaters had to be retrived from the Cabin Creek area and Big Piney area.  They were facing 8-10 foot rolling waves and thankfully decided it was to dangerous to return to the State Park.  A normal run for the fisherman that normally took 20 minutes turned into an hour and a half run.  We would like to thank all of our sponsors American Legion Post 10, Golden Corral, Dewaynes BBQ, James R. Ford, Caldwell Banker, Mountain Talk Radio, DAV Chapter 27, Gold Country Band, Western Sizzlin, Wal-Mart, Cracker Barrel, Colton;s Steakhouse, Sonic, Ryan'sBurger King, Fish and Stuff, Petit Jean Meats, Waffle House, Stoby's Restaraunt, FLW Outdoors, Ranger Boats, City of Russellville, Scott Ramos another great year announcing the tournament, and Lake Dardanelle State Park (including all of the staff and Andy Thomas for a great job once again).  The tournament will be held next year at the Lake Dardanelle State Park on the first Saturday in April on April 3, 2010.

2008 DAV Bass Tournament, Lake Dardanelle State Park, Russellville
April 5, 2008  Lake Dardanelle State Park, Russellville, Arkansas

      After weeks of heavy rain, storms, and high waters it was decided to go through with the DAV Bass Tournament.  With live coverage on KCJC 102.3, the National Anthem was sung by Gold Country, and the Arkansas Tech University ROTC Cadets presented the Colors.  The  boaters were led by David Spurgin in reciting the National Anthem.  The Boaters were released at first safe light.  The weather was cool and cloudy until about noon when the sun came out and the temperature rose to nearly 70 degrees. 

       While the fishermen were out on the lake Gold Country Band played for the attendees all afternoon.  There were many live remotes promoting the DAV and the tournament by KCJC.  The DAV National Service Officers were on hand with the DAV's Mobile Service Office to help Veterans learn their benefits and file the necessary paperwork to help them obtain benefits.  Bass Fishing legend and FLW Outdoors namesake Forrest Wood spoke to the audience about the importance of supporting Veterans.  Mr. Wood meet with fans and visited and signed autographs.  Mr. Wood presented the trophies and plaques to the winners.  The DAV made a special presentation of a handmade Arkansas Toothpick exactly like the Arkansas National Guard carry, for Forrest Wood and Keith Daffren's partnership and friendship in making the DAV tournament possible, and a huge success.  The tournament was a fun and successful event with participants coming from as far as Kentucky, Virginia, Florida, and Texas.

2007 Inaugural DAV Bass Tournament

The inaugural DAV Bass Tournament was an overwhelming success. We would like to thank all of the participants who competed in our tournament. It was a tough time to fish Bull Shoals Lake but everyone who attended had a wonderful time. The Department would like to thank Ricky and Steve Eastwold for supplying the tournament headquarters and much more. Ranger Boats provided hats for all the participants, and their tournament weigh-in trailer. Keith Daffron ran the weigh-in doing a wonderful job. Forest and Nina Wood came out to the weigh-in and spoke to the audience and attended the evening meal handing out checks and plaques to the winners. The National Guard brought out their climbing wall, and their obstacle course for attendees to enjoy at Bel Arco Resort. Also at Bel Arco Walking Eagle lures had a booth, the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Chapter 30 Mountain Home had a booth and their DAV transportation van on display, Air Evac Lifteteam had a booth set up and brought in one of their Helicopters. The Baxter County Sheriff's Department also brought in their helicopter to our event. Commander Joseph Didden would like to thank the Fort Smith Chapter, Little Rock Chapter, Heber Springs Chapter, Alma Chapter, Russellville Chapter, Mena Chapter, El Dorado Chapter, Texarkana Chapter, and his chapter the Mountain Home Chapter. There will be a much more comprehensive story about the tournament, and the winners.
